Topic/Presenter: Optics / C. Stewart/M. Vincent Question/Comment: How do we align the instrument and Lyot stop? Submitted by: Bruce Gillespie NIC-FPS Response: On 2002-07-03, Jon Barentine supplied us with an instrument to telescope alignment tolerance of 5 mm. This is much looser than the machining tolerances involved in the fabrication of NIC-FPS. We foresee no problems in aligning the instrument to the telescope that tip/tilting the tertiary cannot correct. Tests on Zemax has shown that aligning the Lyot stop to the optical axis within NIC-FPS will be sufficient to accommodate any misalignments mentioned above. We expect to undersize the outer radius of the stop by 100-150 microns out of a ~40 mm diameter. The centeral obstruction for the secondary will be similarly oversized.
